Research programs for high school students

Research programs put you in a lab or with a mentor on a real question. They are the most common path to a project you can actually write about later.

281 programs currently listed · 215 free or stipend-paying.

What to know

  • Read the program page for what you will actually do. “Research” can mean running experiments or it can mean a lecture series.
  • You do not need prior lab experience for most of these. You do need to explain why this specific lab.
  • If nothing here is near you, cold-emailing a local professor is a real strategy — Atlas has a guide on it.
