Our commitment

Atlas of Opportunity is built so that students with disabilities — including students using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, magnification, or reduced-motion settings — can find, save, and apply to programs without barriers.

Standards we target

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. In practice that means:

• Semantic landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) on every page.
• A visible "skip to content" link as the first focusable element.
• Keyboard access for every interactive element, including the Finder filter drawer and saved-list toggles.
• Color contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text against its background.
• Alt text on every informational image, and aria-hidden on decorative ones.
• aria-label on icon-only buttons (save, report, share, close).
• Respect for prefers-reduced-motion: no auto-playing video or large parallax.

Known gaps

We're honest about where we fall short. As of the date above:

• We haven't run a third-party audit yet — checks are internal.
• Some long opportunity descriptions still come straight from host sites; their formatting can be inconsistent.
• The Tracker progress bar reads "X of Y" by position, not by an explicit aria-valuenow attribute. We're fixing this.
• PDF guides (if/when added) won't be tagged for screen readers until we explicitly say so.
