About the Founder.

I am Nehan Hossain, founder of Opportunity Atlas. After spending countless hours hunting for research programs, internships, fellowships, and STEM opportunities, I kept seeing the same pattern: the best openings travel through whisper networks. They reach students who already have the right adult, the right school, or the right zip code. Everyone else is left searching in the dark.

My vision is to change that. Opportunity Atlas is a free, student-built compass that puts research experiences, summer programs, scholarships, and academic enrichment opportunities in one open place — so any high schooler can find their next step without needing an inside connection.

As a former research intern with the University of Washington's Sustainability, Satellites, Water, and Environment (SASWE) group, I co-authored work published in Earth System Science Data (ESSD) and AGU Advances. I've also held leadership roles across STEM, service, and academic organizations. Those experiences taught me one thing: the right opportunity at the right time can completely rewrite a student's trajectory.

Whether you're looking for your first research experience, your next summer program, or a pathway into STEM you didn't know existed, I hope Opportunity Atlas leads you to opportunities that might otherwise stay out of reach.

§ How we vet programs

A program lands in the Finder only if it clears four checks.

  1. 01The host is real.

An accredited university, a registered nonprofit, or a published research lab — verifiable in under 30 seconds.

  2. 02It actually accepts high schoolers.

Not a college program a HS student technically could apply to. The page must name high school applicants explicitly.

  3. 03It's not predatory.

We exclude programs that charge thousands without need-based aid, or that promise admissions advantage in exchange for tuition.

  4. 04It has run at least one cohort.

No vaporware. Either an alumni page, a past-year syllabus, or third-party coverage.

See a program that shouldn't be listed? Flag it and we'll review within a week.
